Here's a snapshot of the script from Uwais' copy. The movie is called "The Expendables 4", there is no mention of the tagline "A Christmas Story", at least for now. You can also note that the 1st draft was ready in September 2019 already. Since the fallout between Sly & Avi, the intention has always been to reboot the franchise with a new generation of Expendables led by Statham as the main character.
I think it was interesting to do this reboot with Statham because the series was already getting a little repetitive in terms of the somewhat simplistic plot. Yes, seeing all the stars from the 80s and 90s together makes us not pay the slightest attention to the script.
ReplyDeleteBut, even if they worked a lot in a script for a 4 or 5 with Stallone as the main one, it would be unavoidable not to think about passing the torch to Statham because Stallone is already at an age that makes it almost impossible to do the things he used to do in 1,2 and 3.
Of course, the next few films need more veteran stars and not a lot of younger ones, even in charge of Statham.
I'm not a fan of the reboot but to be realistic Sly is getting up there. I'm not excited as much as I was 10 years to see him in an Expendables movie. It would feel unrealistic to see an older man lead a mercenary team on tough missions. So my brain gets the reboot but my heart still wants to see an expendables movie with the starts of the 80/90s
ReplyDeleteYes. But to balance that, they could mix veteran actors with young ones (not so young, but well-known and talented) just like they're doing in 4. They could add Nicolas Cage and John Travolta. They aren't old, but they aren't that young either. They are well known and perform super well.
