When I first saw this scene back then, I hoped it was a tease for more to Come.. I really hoped foe Trench to have his own mercenary crew of real badasses. Perhaps they could serve as a rival mercenary group or it could lead to a spin-off movie even. Imagine Schwarzenegger with his 'anti-expendables' group of well known toughguy actoren.. But then EX2 and EX3 used him in little cameos just for fun and laughs just to score on his fame and his legend as an actor. The Trench character itself got reduced to a humorous spoof character. It was even heavily implied in both EX2 and EX3 that Trench doesnt even have his own mercenary crew at all and hé is just pretending.. in EX1 I got this sense that Trench was this really dangerpus badass famous mercenary and big rival, but now that this is far from the case, I'd rather they leave him out of the franchise entirely OR retcon this character a little and show how badass hé truly is.. but that wont happen
I agree. But, maybe it's a case of putting him as a replacement for some Expendable that appeared in 2 or 3. He's badass. But as he said, without Stallone he doesn't make the movie. Perhaps a participation beyond that is as possible villain with an anti Expendables team, as you said.
In 3 it is implicit that he has a team in which Li even starts to be part (and he is well paid). I really hope that Schwarzenegger comes back, even if it's like this comic relief. He is very important as a movie legend. It might not be so cool with him only on cameo, but it's pretty bad without him.
Arnold was totally wasted in the franchise. EX1 was a huge disappointment with his cameo. EX2 was good and I thought was setting the stage for his character to be developed in future series but EX3 was a disaster then. They pretty much killed his character right there. So much potential wasted.
Hope Schwarzenegger comes back for another movie.

DeleteI'm not surprised he doesn't want to return to the franchise after what they've done to his character in the 3rd movie. He got totally disrespected.
DeleteIn an old interview he said he didn't like how they put him in the script of 3. If there are other films, I hope they put it in a better way.
