The second film, in my opinion, is unsurpassed. It might not be as dark as the first one, but having almost every legend in the cast makes Expendables 2 the movie of the century. I've watched it several times and I'll keep watching haha. The third one might not be what we were hoping for, but I watch it because of Mel Gibson and Wesley Snipes.
He's already said that he would hunt down any guy in an Expendables movie as a villain. But, during 3 and before 3, he was never approached for a role. Also, he never said he wouldn't. On the contrary, he just showed enthusiasm for making the film. If he agreed to record Fast X after his problem with Vin Diesel, why wouldn't he do an Expendables with Statham who never had any problems with him?
Dwayne Johnson would try to turn the franchise in a very silly fast paced comedy movie where everyone makes awkward and silly jokes, and he'd try to turn himself into the main character to build his own franchise out of.
Unless he's given up on that, then he'd be good, but if he still works like that... then keep him as far away from the franchise as possible.
From the Expendables 4 trailers, it's possible to see that the franchise has become something like Fast and Furious. If a rivalry arises, Expendables will have a new reason to stay alive: to overcome the Fast and Furious franchise. Statham now runs Expendables and Johnson has an absurd prominence in Fast and Furious even though he is not the head of the team. They can lead rival franchises. And audiences love rivalries.
The product quality, cost ($200M+) and the cast (Diesel, Mamoa, Cena, Brie, Charlize, all A listers) of FF is not comparable. Expendable doesn’t even come close, it’s a cheap production (60M+) with nobody actors (Fox, 50, Couture, all B listers). Even the studios are in different leagues: Universal vs Lionsgate/Ave cheap Lerner! So drop the comparison bro 😎
FF may be more generously invested and have more big-name actors, but it's ridiculously off the ground. It even became a meme because of it. Most people I know say they'd rather watch an Expendables movie than a Fast and Furious movie, saying it's almost a comedy because of all the nonsense like immortality and superhuman abilities of Diesel and ALL the good guys and even bad, lack of physics and absolute lack of blood. Obviously, FF is a brute success. This is remarkable.
yes it's become a parody but still the star power and the production quality is miles ahead of expendables which is becoming a B-movie actually. If it wasn't for Statham's star power it'd definitely be a DTV movie.
Yes. I recognize that the investment in Expendables 4 could have been much higher. Maybe they did it because it's an adaptation of a spin-off that was originally going to have reduced production. I hope that 4 is successful so that the franchise can receive investment and care as before.
Regardless of the success of EX4 the issue remains the franchise owners who are cheap and the studio behind it. They just don’t have the financial power power of universal to take the Expendables to the the level of blockbuster movies. It’s just a sad reality
Exactly. I mean, the fourth being successful for the fifth to at least get budgets like the second film that guaranteed the presence of big name actors. The reality is sad, but let's hope for the success and continuation of the franchise :)
EX2 is my favourite. Perfect action film in my (very personal) book! Love EX1 und EX3 also. Both for different reasons. If EX4 makes some money for the studio and I guess they will factor in that it is nine years after the last movie and won't reach the box office of the first three maybe there'll be an EX5. And I will continue writing here until then...
It would be amazing. Jackie Chan's stunt group participated in Expendables 4. So maybe this means Chan is getting closer to the producers of the Expendables franchise? I hope so. Jai White would be a good replacement for Crews as Crews don't want to come back. The strange thing is that the Expendables Instagram account still hasn't unfollowed Crews. Maybe, there's some chance he'll come back.
For me EX2 is the best action movie made in the last 20 years. The reunion of Sly, Arnold, Bruce, JCVD, Dolph, Mel, Chuck has no price for a fan of the 80's
Perhaps the fourth film could turn out to be the best in terms of martial arts. Apparently, they invested a lot in it. Even Jackie Chan's stunt team was involved. Now, the Expendables will face an army of guys who know martial arts, that is, both the villain and his army know how to fight. In previous Expendables movies, few characters knew how to fight martial arts and enemy soldiers just shoot guns and fight brutally.
EX2 is the best of the series. I think most people agree. The best movie could have been the one getting all the action actors of the 80’s: Seagal, Dudikoff, Weathers, Chan, Russell, etc. So many were still missed in the franchise and it’s too late now. So EX2 will remain the best.

ReplyDeleteI support that
DeleteThat's the spirit, friend!!
DeleteIf EX4 succed, maybe an EX5 is possible with more stars like the three originals.
ReplyDeleteExactly. Maybe more 2000s guys. John Cena, The Rock, Jai White etc.
DeleteThe Rock will never join this franchise

You can’t compare the FF franchise to the Expendables man.

ReplyDeleteLet's support and cheer for the success of the fourth film. The franchise cannot die.
Deletecouldn't agree more with you folks. EX2 is by far the superior movie out of all
ReplyDeleteThe 2nd movie without a doubt.
ReplyDeleteFor me the 1st movie.
ReplyDeleteEX2
ReplyDeleteThe first movie by far. After that the franchise became a joke
ReplyDeleteExpendables 2 all the way! The star-studded cast, epic action sequences, and nostalgic feel made it an unforgettable ride.
ReplyDeleteMy sweet dream: Ex5 with Chan, Pacino, Cage, Travolta, Dacascos, Weathers, Jai White and Trejo.
ReplyDeleteIt would be amazing. Jackie Chan's stunt group participated in Expendables 4. So maybe this means Chan is getting closer to the producers of the Expendables franchise? I hope so. DeleteNot sure you realize that Pacino will be 100 by the time EX5 gets made??!!
DeleteAl Pacino like David Zayas in EX1 and Cage & Travolta as their sons.
Deletethank god you don't write scripts for Hollywood LMAO
DeleteI have to go with the original Expendables
ReplyDeleteExpendables 2 brought back the iconic characters with even more over-the-top action. It’s a classic in the genre
ReplyDeleteExpendables 3 for me! The addition of new, younger Expendables injected fresh energy into the series, making it my favorite 😂
ReplyDeleteI’m a fan of old-school action, so Expendables 1 is my top pick. It captured that classic ’80s action vibe perfectly.
ReplyDeleteStallone's direction helped a lot too. The action got a very dark, violent and somewhat realistic look. Stallone is very good at doing that.
DeleteFor me EX2 is the best action movie made in the last 20 years. The reunion of Sly, Arnold, Bruce, JCVD, Dolph, Mel, Chuck has no price for a fan of the 80's
ReplyDeletewhat if EX4 turns out to be the best movie of the franchise? has anyone ever considered that?

DeleteSo they’ve turned our beloved franchise into a Jackie Chan movie?
DeleteNo, they just worked the martial arts more carefully. Perhaps because the cast is a little less appealing to the public than in previous films.
DeleteEX 2-1-3 in that order

ReplyDeleteEX1 then EX2 and I’m done with this franchise after the 3rd movie. I’ll stream EX4. No way I’m paying to see this garbage in theaters
